Which leader to choose?

The leader must be adapted to the environment, the target species and the technique used. As such, it will depend on the tackle used (fly line, rod power, fly type, etc.).

Tapered leader or knotted leader?

- The tapered leader: it is ready to use, generally starting at 45° and ending at a diameter approximately 3 times smaller (18 to 12° depending on the model).
- The knotted leader: to be made yourself. It consists of a series of monofilament sections of decreasing diameter knotted together. It is more complex, but allows you to achieve exactly the taper & length desired.
- The more tapered the leader (significant taper), the easier it will be to cast.

What length?

- Approximately 2.5 to 3m
- To be adapted according to the width of the river and the depth.

Pike & other sharp-toothed predators

Because of their cutting teeth, it is essential to choose a specific leader in large-diameter fluorocarbon, titanium, braided steel, etc. for fishing pike & company.
