Which wobbling spoon to choose for trout?

Wobbling spoons are designed to fish effectively with a straight retrieve, a classic retrieve, or simply by working a promising spot with small twitches and pauses. With so many models available, how do you choose the right shape?

Curve and width

The more curved (S-shaped) and wide the spoon, the more it will resist the water and produce a wide swimming action. This is perfect for calm areas. Conversely, for areas with current, a less curved and rather narrow spoon is preferred.

Thickness and width

The thicker and narrower (in width) the spoon, the less lift it will have in the water, meaning it will sink faster. This is ideal for deep or fast-flowing areas. For shallow or calm areas, opt for a thin and wide version, which has greater lift and therefore sinks more slowly.
