How to use a jerkbait?

Animating a jerkbait

A jerk bait is animated through more or less rapid rod tip jerks of varying intensity in order to achieve a "left-right" action. For versions more in the glide bait style, the animations should be spaced out to allow the lure time to "glide" left and then right underwater. Some also support a simple steady retrieve that will allow them to describe more or less wide "S" curves. Don't forget to pause to allow sinking models time to flutter on the drop — watch out for bites on the restart of the animation!

Customising a jerkbait

The use of additional weights will allow you to vary their action even further. The CWC Guppie, for example, thanks to its soft tail, offers even more vibrations.
