The stickbait is a floating hard lure used in lure fishing, designed to work primarily on the surface or just beneath the water film.

The most common stickbait technique is walking the dog, which consists of making the lure zigzag laterally using short twitches, often punctuated by pauses. This action triggers reflex strikes, both in freshwater and saltwater. Stickbaits are particularly effective when fish are active or holding in shallow water.

In freshwater, these lures are well suited for targeting predators such as pike along edges, weed beds, or shallow areas. In saltwater, they are commonly used for sea bass fishing, particularly from the shore or on the surface in calm or slightly choppy conditions.
