Landing a trout on the fly and then sliding it into the landing net is always a safe way to end a fight. Ardent Fly Fishing offers a house-brand landing net designed by its team of enthusiasts.

Which landing net to choose?

Handle length

The length should be adapted to your environment

Wading: a short handle will be perfect, as you are closest to the fish. If you are targeting large specimens or fishing in very large rivers, a longer handle can be an advantage.
Bank or boat: the further you are from the water, the longer your landing net handle needs to be. If space is an issue, telescopic and/or folding models will be an advantage.

The size of the "frame"

The size of the frame or head will be directly related to the potential size of the fish you are targeting. In a small river with 20cm trout, a 30 by 40cm head is perfect. If you are targeting pike or salmon, a head of at least 50 by 60cm is recommended.

Net type and depth

Transparent rubber: ideal for discretion, fish welfare and preventing hooks from getting tangled inside. Slower passage through the water due to resistance. It dries very quickly and retains very little odour.

Folding or fixed?

If bulk is not an issue, a fixed landing net will be perfect. If size does matter, then you should look towards a folding and/or telescopic version.

Other key points

A floating landing net can be a real asset, particularly for keeping the fish while you prepare the souvenir photo or to give it time to recover.
