Which leader to choose?

The leader must be adapted to the environment, the targeted species and the technique used. It will therefore depend on the equipment used (fly line, rod power, fly type, etc.).

Tapered leader or knotted leader?

• - The tapered leader: it is ready to use, generally starting at 45°° and ending at a diameter approximately 3 times smaller (18 to 12°° depending on the model).
• - The knotted leader: to be made yourself. It consists of a series of nylon sections of decreasing diameter tied together. It is more complex, but allows you to obtain exactly the taper & length desired.
• - The more tapered the leader (significant taper), the easier it will be to cast.

What length?

• - Approximately 2.5 to 3m
• - To be adapted to the depth.

The case of sharp-toothed predators

Because of their sharp teeth, it is essential to choose a specific leader in large-diameter fluorocarbon, titanium, braided steel, etc.
