The Rio Scandi head benefits from the "connectcore" technology which provides the stiffness and sensitivity needed for detecting fish takes. The scandi shooting heads allow you to cast far easily while retaining the benefit of a careful presentation of your fly. To optimise the performance of these lines, Rio recommends the following Scandi/Shooting line Powerflex or gripshooter matches:
- from 450gr to 550gr: slick shooter 35lb or shooting line 0.76mm
- from 550gr to 650gr: slick shooter 44lb or shooting line 0.89mm
- Colour: Salmon/orange
- Floating line These shooting heads replace the old Scandi AFS.

Advice from Jean-Baptiste Vidal:Scandi Shooting head (river 15 to 30 m)A very versatile shooting head for use on medium to large rivers. (over 15 m) with a head longer than the Skagit and shorter than the Short Head Spey.
Advantages: precise, delicate and versatile. Disadvantages: Less practical for small to medium rivers due to the shooting line/head connection.
Uses: Ideal for fishing in Scandinavian style or underhand (using the rod handle to deliver power). For rivers larger than 15 m. Allows long casts with beautiful presentations, effortlessly. Can also be used on Switch rods from 11.4 to 12 feet.
