Peacock quills (peacock herl) are among the most commonly used materials for tying artificial fly bodies, particularly for nymphs and dry flies. They can be used as-is to create the body or thorax of the fly, or stripped with a fingernail or eraser to faithfully reproduce the segmented bodies of dry flies, emergers, and nymphs.
