Which rod to choose for fly fishing?

Depending on the fish you wish to catch, the choice of technique and therefore of rod will vary.

Dry fly trout fishing in rivers

Depending on the size of the waterway, the length will vary from 6' to 10' for line weights ranging from #3 to #6. A versatile starting point is a 9' #4/5 weight rod.

Trout / grayling nymph fishing in rivers

Depending on the size of the waterway, the length will vary from 10' to 11' for line weights ranging from #2 to #4 or straight nylon. A good starting point would be a 10'6 #2/3 weight rod for small waterways and a 10'9 #3/4 weight for medium to large rivers.

Trout and other species in reservoirs and lakes

The length will vary from 9'6" to 10' for line weights ranging from #6 to #8. A versatile starting point is a 10' #7 weight rod.

    Freshwater and saltwater predators

The length will be around 9' for line weights ranging from #6/7 up to #15 depending on the species. A versatile starting point is a 9' #8/9 weight rod for sea bass, #10 for pike, #12 and above for tuna or exotic fishing.
