This little gem has buoyancy thanks to an air bubble encased in a resistant plastic film, giving it a virtually transparent and therefore natural appearance.
This little gem has buoyancy thanks to an air bubble encased in a resistant plastic film, giving it a virtually transparent and therefore natural appearance. The idea is to make the fly drift just below the surface film, thus avoiding the double image visible if it had gone past it. Of course, for the angler, the sub-merger is not very visible, or even not at all, but that is the point! Simply follow the drift of the leader and strike as soon as there is a rise in the line of drift. Sub-mergers are tied on curved hooks (TMC 200R) which allows the fly to hang almost vertically, a bit like a Klinkhamer except that the latter float of course. The sub-merger perfectly imitates the hatching stage of mayflies where nymphs try to break through the surface film. Be careful not to pinch the bubble between your fingers.
