Which rod to choose for fly fishing?

Depending on the fish you want to catch, the choice of technique and therefore of rod will vary.

Dry fly trout fishing on rivers

Depending on the size of the waterway, length ranges from 6' to 10' for line weights from #3 to #6. A versatile base is a 9' rod, line weight #4/5.

Trout / grayling nymph fishing on rivers

Depending on the size of the waterway, length ranges from 10' to 11' for line weights from #2 to #4 or straight nylon. A good starting base would be a 10'6" rod, line weight #2/3 for small waterways and a 10'9" line weight #3/4 for medium to large waterways.

Trout and other species in reservoirs and lakes

Length ranges from 9'6" to 10' for line weights from #6 to #8. A versatile base is a 10' rod, line weight #7.

    Predators in freshwater and saltwater

Length will be around 9' for line weights ranging from #6/7 up to #15 depending on the species. A versatile base is a 9' rod, line weight #8/9 for sea bass, #10 for pike, #12 and above for tuna or exotic fishing.
