    Description

    Shimano Sustain FJ spinning reels

The Sustain FJ reel series from Shimano stands out with its ultra-lightweight CI4+ composite Magnumlite (MGL) rotor, ensuring smooth rotation and increased sensitivity. Its HAGANE aluminum body provides exceptional rigidity, while the MicroModule Gear II system and Silent Drive technology guarantee silent and precise retrieval. The Long Stroke spool and AR-C design optimize casting distances, and the Cross Carbon drag delivers consistent, reliable power. X-Protect protection enhances durability in marine conditions.

Versatile, this range is suited to lure fishing techniques, whether in freshwater or saltwater. The smaller models are perfect for finesse fishing, while the 4000 and 5000 sizes offer the power needed to target stronger species such as sea bass or pike.

    Which reel should you choose?

    Rod balance

Choose a reel suited to your rod — one that will balance the rod, but also allow you to cast the lures intended for the rod's power rating.

    Spool diameter

The spool diameter is a key factor for a spinning reel. It must match the size and position of the rod's first guide ring. The larger the first guide ring, the larger the spool diameter should be. The further the first guide ring is from the reel seat, the larger the reel should be.

    The ratio

Another important point is the retrieval ratio. A standard ratio is 75–80 cm of line retrieved per crank of the handle. You should therefore choose your reel's ratio based on the fishing techniques you wish to use.

If you have any questions about choosing a rod, the rigs suited to your fishing area, or the type of line (braid, monofilament, fluorocarbon) to put on your reel, do not hesitate to contact us via our website, by phone, or by visiting us in person at our Ardent Pêche store.
