How to choose a spinning reel?

Rod balance

Choose a reel suited to your rod — one that will balance the rod while also allowing you to cast the lures matched to the rod's power rating.

The gear ratio

Another important factor is the gear ratio. A standard ratio yields 75–80 cm of line retrieve per crank. You will therefore need to choose your reel's ratio based on the fishing techniques you wish to use.
